The European Commission is set to publish proposals detailing its plans to enhance cybersecurity in the EU, Reuters reports. The Commission’s report calls for increased technical capabilities to investigate cyberattacks and investments to promote a stronger regional cyber industry. The European Commission also wants to create a European encryption capability equipped with quantum technologies as the basis for secure digital identification systems. The report finds the impact of cybercrime has grown fivefold between 2013 and 2017 and could rise another four times by 2019. Europol estimates cybercrime costs the EU 265 billion euros per year
