Facebook halts transcription of audio chats

Bloomberg reports Facebook confirmed it had been paying contractors to transcribe users’ audio. The tech giant said they stopped the practice last week. “Much like Apple and Google, we paused human review of audio more than a week ago,” the company said. The company had long denied the practice but said affected users “chose the option in Facebook’s Messenger app to have their voice chats transcribed.” The Irish Data Protection Commission is examining the activity to determine if it violates the EU General Data Protection Regulation
