Reuters reports the cabinet of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cleared draft data protection legislation for consideration in Parliament. “The protection of personal data is a very important subject globally,” Minister of Environment Prakash Javadekar said following the cabinet’s approval. “How that will be done (here) and how work will progress keeping India’s interest and people’s interest in mind, this is what this bill is about.” It’s unclear whether the cabinet made amendments to the bill prior to its approval.
